In a bold and timely decision, two of India’s leading academic institutions, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), have suspended their Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with universities affiliated with Türkiye. The action comes in the wake of growing national security concerns.

The move follows Pakistan’s use of drones made by Türkiye in its cowardly attack on Indian civilians during Operation Sindoor. This brazen act exposes Türkiye’s indirect role in supporting Pakistan-sponsored Islamic terrorism. By enabling Pakistan’s military tactics, Türkiye stands complicit in actions that threaten India’s sovereignty and safety.

Addressing the issue firmly, JNU stated, “Due to national security considerations, the MoU between JNU and Inonu University Türkiye stands suspended until further notice. JNU stands with the nation.” Similarly, Jamia Millia Islamia declared, “Due to national security considerations, any MoU between Jamia Millia Islamia New Delhi and any institution affiliated with the Government of the Republic of Türkiye stands suspended with immediate effect. Jamia Millia Islamia stands firmly with the nation.”

This swift and uncompromising step reinforces the idea that national security supersedes all partnerships, academic or otherwise. By standing united in this critical hour, these institutions have set a precedent for responsible and patriotic decision making. It is a strong reminder that in matters of sovereignty and civilian safety, India will act firmly and without hesitation.
