Murder of Democracy in JNU: Student Community Rallies Against Left-led JNUSU; Effigy Burnt in Protest

New Delhi, October 19

After the call of the ABVP JNU & ABVP led JNUSU , a massive student protest was held today against the blatant violation of JNU’s democratic structure and the “victim card” politics employed by Left groups. An effigy of the Left-led JNUSU was burned at Sabarmati T Point to protest the arbitrary and undemocratic announcement of the Election Committee (EC) during the General Body Meetings (GBMs) of the Schools of Social Sciences (SSS) and School of Language, Literature, and Culture Studies (SLL&CS).

The responsibility for the irregularities occurring in JNU lies entirely with the Left groups. The GBM of the School of Social Sciences (SSS) serves as the biggest example, where the Left-led JNUSU President unilaterally declared the Election Committee (EC) within five minutes. This appointment was made arbitrarily, without any proposal, voting, or headcount. This dictatorial behaviour is a clear violation of JNU’s democratic framework and a direct betrayal of the trust of the common students. As happens every year, the old “Victim Card” of the Left organizations has been activated with the approach of elections. These groups, who are nowhere to be seen in student politics throughout the year, start the same crying, the same false accusations, and the same drama, “ABVP did this, ABVP did that”—as soon as elections near.

Students have now recognized this play for sympathy.JNUSU Joint Secretary, Vaibhav Meena, reacted sharply to the incident: “As a responsible member of the JNUSU, I clarify that the unilateral declaration of the EC by the President is an open violation of JNU’s democratic rules. The trust of the students has been broken. We will challenge this dictatorship even from within the JNUSU and ensure that the election process is transparent.”ABVP JNU President, Mayank Panchal, attacked the politics of the Left. “The Left plays the ‘victim card’ before every election, but this time their lie is exposed. Students were attacked and democracy was murdered in the GBMs of SSS and SLL&CS. ABVP wants to make it clear that until the election process is transparent and action is taken against the attackers, our protest will continue peacefully but strongly.”ABVP JNU Secretary, Praveen K Piyush, emphasized the issue of social justice: “Our students belong to the SC-ST and PWD communities were specifically targeted. This shows that Left groups only pretend to care about social justice.

The JNU student community is now united and will not forgive any kind of violence or discrimination. We are fighting for the restoration of democracy.”The Left-led JNUSU effigy burning program, held at Sabarmati T Point at 05:00 PM on October 19, witnessed the participation of a massive number of students. This huge turnout symbolized the students’ unity against the dictatorship and undemocratic procedures of the Left. The crowd gathered at Sabarmati T Point proves that the JNU student community will no longer tolerate the murder of democracy and stands firmly for the demand for transparency in the election process. ABVP has resolved that this struggle will continue until the democratic values in JNU are fully restored.
