Media Manthan organized a workshop titled “The Role of AI in Journalism and Ethical Reporting” on Saturday at 93, South Avenue, President’s Estate, New Delhi. It was held from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. The session introduced journalism students to the growing role of AI in media. Also, emphasized ethical fact-checking, public relations, and effective reporting practices.
The session featured Jai Ji and Alok Ji as guest speakers. They shared their professional
experiences and perspectives on contemporary journalism. Beginning with the program,
Abhishek Ji, State Team Convenor of Media Manthan, felicitated the speakers and
welcomed the participants.
Addressing the students, Jai Ji spoke about the increasing use of AI tools in journalism for research, data analysis, and content development. However, he stressed that technology
should support, not replace, ground reporting. He emphasized the importance of fieldwork
and first-hand information in ensuring accuracy, credibility, and authenticity in news
reporting.
Alok Ji, an alumnus of Media Manthan and currently working with Network18, highlighted
the importance of regularly reading newspapers. He noted that consistent reading helps
journalists stay updated with current affairs. It also strengthens their analytical abilities and
improves language and reporting skills. He also encouraged students to remain actively
engaged with developments in media and society.
The workshop saw enthusiastic participation from journalism students belonging to various
colleges and academic years. Students actively interacted with the speakers. They also asked
questions and gained practical insights into the realities and responsibilities of journalism
in the digital age.
The session provided a deeper understanding of the evolving nature of journalism with the
integration of AI and modern technology. At the same time, it reinforced the importance
of ethical reporting, critical thinking, and on-the-ground verification. The workshop concluded
successfully, offering valuable guidance and inspiration to aspiring journalists. It highlighted the balance between technological advancement and journalistic integrity.
